Reframing Creativity at the Creato Summer Picnic 2022

Our friends at Creato, a community driven organization dedicated to connecting and supporting artists and creatives who identify as Latinx in Canada, have been hosting a free summer picnic for the last two years where people can meet other creatives, exchange ideas and participate in activities run by volunteer organizations and collectives.

The 2022 picnic was supported and presented by Reframing Creativity and Muse Arts, a Toronto based community arts organization run by, refugee, immigrant, and newcomer artists founded in 2012. Check some event’s photos below taken by photographer Maria Vega.

This summer’s event included drawing activities, delicious food, music by two amazing DJ’s and, after more than two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the opportunity to network and meet new people in person while enjoying the sun!

We decided to do a small intervention hoping to spark dialogue about the creative activities that people started doing during the pandemic (Photos below). We had a deck of sticky notes and some markers so people could write down their answer and add it to the board. It ended up being a conversation starter and it provided a space for people to reflect on, and share, their creative experiences with us and others. We are happy to support this kind of initiatives and are hoping to attend next year!
