Documenting sound, a project by Boomkat Records, is a series of recordings made at home by artists from different disciplines and locations around the world.

The idea behind this project was to encapsulate the perspective of artists as they navigated the pandemic and made sense of the moment through sound. Boomkat Records asked them to “experiment with field recordings, found sounds, improvisation, spoken word, songwriting, collage - whatever felt appropriate and real”. The only proviso was for the material to be recorded at home or its surroundings.

The results have been a meaningful and diverse archive for posterity, and overall, an open door into the noises, clicks, voices and sounds that shaped these creators’ experiences amid the crisis. There are more than 40 pieces of work so far and you can find all of them on the Boomkat website.

Here are some examples!
